I can see that some of you are raising your hands and feeling all sorts of confused... But, what kind of project is this? you are asking yourselves. I have to shake my head and tell you, in complete disbelief... Haven't you seen the sign by the door? We, that is Michele and I, want to lose 100 pounds in a year.
I am European and consequently have a better understanding of the metric system. I am making friends slowly with the Imperial system, but for all you who are, like me, sometimes lost in the various twists of the Imperial weight grading, 100 pounds is 45.4 Kg.
Now, class, the way I feel about this trip is that it is not only about losing weight. This trip is more about making choices. The right choices, that is. And also, about getting used to that so we may never lose sight of the right path and walk right on it.
Basically, the points we need to (re)learn are:
- Portions. It is true: half a cup is a portion of pasta. Your body doesn't need any more.
- Vegetables are friends. And they are delicious. Trust us. They are. You will see.
- Exercising not only burns calories. It also consumes sugar, makes your heart stronger and releases rainbows and hello kitties into your brain. No. Really.
It is called 'withdrawal'.
With a bit of luck, if we are still alive and kicking, then you will read us telling you about how good we are starting to look and how sometimes we feel bad when we eat bad stuff or we overeat.
Why I know so much about this? Because I have suffered it.
Three times.
I have lost reasonable amounts of weight three times in the past, but my drug is the food. I have fallen three times back into it with bad consequences for my health. As I am starting my fourth serious weight loss challenge, I want this one to last for more than two years.
So be it.
100 pounds to go... Keep tuning.
Hello Manny and Michelle.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I have lost weight in amounts of 25-40 pounds and put it all back on and sometimes more. I am sick of being so fat. Gretchen and I are trying to eat healthier, and lose weight, but to stay on the course and keep eating this way to stay healthy. I pray for your success as well as ours.
We have battled weight and food addiction our whiole lives. It will not be an easy road, but we are determined.
God bless you both,
John.
Thanks, John! Good luck to you and Gretchen, as well. It is a long road, but a one worthy of travel.
